Medium red. Aromas of medicinal red fruits and wild herbs. Penetrating acidity and a peppery element frame the intense redcurrant, smoke and mineral flavors. The explosive, building, savory finish boasts a solid spine of tannins for aging. Very young and extremely promising.

The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Malconsorts literally floats on the palate. Gracious and ethereal, the Malconsorts shows off remarkable elegance in its hints of plum, dark berries, dried flowers and licorice. The Malconsorts is flat-out gorgeous now, but its best days clearly lie ahead. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030. Once again this year I tasted with Charles Van Canneyt, Alain Hudelot’s grandson. Yields were down 30% across the board, a significant drop but not terrible considering the year. Overall the 2010s are very strong and seem to point towards a style that is a bit more refined than in the past. Importer: Atherton Imports, Menlo Park, CA; tel. (650) 328-6639
