The 2011 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers 1er Cru does not quite deliver the purity and vigor that I was expecting on the nose: a little disjointed at first, though coalescing to offer scents of crushed red berries, Chinese tea and cold stone. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, darker fruit than say the Chaignots from Mugneret-Gibourg with a linear and quite vigorous finish that lingers in the mouth. Drink now and over the next decade. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

Nuits-Saint-Georges, a renowned appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is famous for its robust, structured Pinot Noir wines with rich flavours of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, along with earthy, spicy notes. Known for firm tannins and full-bodied character, these wines are ideal for ageing. Although lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Saint-Georges and Les Vaucrains produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine Henri Gouges, Domaine Faiveley, and Domaine Robert Chevillon, all celebrated for showcasing the unique terroir with traditional winemaking.
