Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 Nov 16
Le Pupille's 2013 Poggio Valente Riserva represents a clear stylistic departure from the past. Powerful, expressive and also dense, the 2013 nevertheless presents a super-classic interpretation of structure. Far from an easygoing wine, the 2013 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own. This is the second vintage aged in 500-600L barrels, a choice that has given the Poggio Valente a much more classic feel. The 2013 has only recently been bottled, but it is pretty impressive just the same. I can't wait to see how it ages.

Tuscany

Tuscany, a renowned wine region in central Italy, is famous for its high-quality Sangiovese-based wines. Key styles include Chianti, with vibrant acidity and red fruit flavours; Chianti Classico, known for greater depth; and Brunello di Montalcino, prized for its rich, full-bodied character and ageing potential. Tuscany also produces prestigious Super Tuscan wines that blend Sangiovese with international varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon. Top producers are Antinori, for Tignanello; Castello di Ama, for Chianti Classico; and Biondi-Santi, for Brunello.
