Vinous Nicolas Greinacher - 22 Dec 25
Tasted from magnum, the 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is perfumed and seductive, with earthy forest floor, a touch of mushroom and spice box complexity. Full-bodied and very much alive, the 2005 shows striking intensity and concentration, finishing long, nuanced and savory. This is drinking splendidly today and should continue to hold in fine form for at least five more years, especially in larger formats.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vineyard Fine Wine

Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a prestigious appellation in France's Southern Rhône Valley, is famous for its rich, complex red wines. These full-bodied wines primarily feature Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, with bold flavours of dark fruit, spices, and earthy undertones, often with a peppery note and velvety texture. The region's unique terroir, marked by large round stones and diverse soils, adds depth to its wines. Top producers include Domaine du Pegau, Château de Beaucastel, and Domaine Janasse, all celebrated for showcasing Châteauneuf-du-Pape's distinctive character.
