Medium ruby-red. Cool aromas of blackberry, mint and crushed rock. Surprisingly pliant, sweet and easygoing following the nose, with licorice and mint notes perking up the dark berry flavors. This very ripe, lush wine seems almost ready to start drinking.

Although slightly austere and closed the day I tasted it, the 2008 La Carre reveals a dense ruby/purple color along with notes of toasty oak, licorice, black currants and crushed rocks as well as impressive richness. It requires 2-3 years of cellaring and should last 15 or more.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
