The 2015 Boyd-Cantenac offers attractive raspberry and wild strawberry on the nose, the oak nicely integrated and hints of rose petal emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and punchy red berry fruit laced with brown spices and graphite, leading to a cohesive finish with good density and length. One of the hidden gems from the appellation this year. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

A warm vintage, and there is clear spice on the nose. None of these so far need to be decanted particularly, or perhaps for an hour at most - the nature of this wine is that it is fairly accessible young, even in big vintages like 2015, but here you definitely feel the most deoph and supple rich texture to the tannins. Enjoyable cocoa bean, vanilla, grilled oak but it is well balanced by the autumnal fruit. Lucien Guillemet owner and winemaker. No external consultant. 90% new oak for ageing, harvest September 28 to October 20.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Boyd-Cantenac has a slightly reduced/rubbery nose to begin, giving way to black soil and underbrush notes over a core of cassis, black berries and dark chocolate. The medium-bodied mouth is packed with black fruit and toasty notions, with very firm, chewy tannins giving a grippy finish.

Tasted blind. Light with some slight biscuit notes. Rather dry and austere on the end. (JR)
