Vinous David Schildknecht - 01 Apr 20
Ripe pear and quince are garlanded with hyacinth and showered with sea spray on a come-hither nose that also harbors hints of grapefruit and lime. The lusciously fruited, glossy and buoyant palate, like the memorably long finish, harnesses citricity in the interest of animation and refreshment, while an upwelling of nut pastes serves for richness and a sweet-saline, iodine-tinged suggestion of crab shell lends salivary stimulation. As is usually the case with Schaefer auction bottlings, this represents a mere half-fuder, or around 500 liters.
