The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has an open, complex, mineral-driven bouquet that makes you stop in your tracks and contemplate. You can feel the terroir here. The medium-bodied palate delivers filigreed tannins and perfectly judged acidity. Tense from start to finish, with wonderful sapidity throughout that gets the saliva flowing. A mouthwatering proposition! There are three barrels this year.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes is once again one of the highlights of the range, offering up a deep and complex bouquet of wild berries, plums and sweet soil tones, complemented by top notes of spices, rose petals and bergamot. Medium to full-bodied, multidimensional and muscular, it's textural and concentrated, with lively acids, beautifully refined tannins and a long, resonant finish.

Vines almost 100 years old. Tank sample but about to be bottled.Deep cherry red with a ripe but fresh intensity of fruit together with an attractive dark rocky note. Real depth here with both fruit sweetness and juicy freshness. A wine without make-up and nothing forced. Small berries thanks to millerandage. Plus a lightness of touch to balance the intensity. Deep, gently chewy and long. Again a lovely whole. (JH)
