Tasting Notes

Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Mar 18
The 2014 L’If has a dense, sultry nose at first, touches of salted liquorice infusing the black, almost tarry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet but firm tannin, a core of ripe, almost sorbet-fresh fruit, orange rind tincturing the finish. I find this actually improves in the glass, developing more sappiness with time although I would have liked more persistency on the aftertaste. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Saint-Emilion Fine Wine

Saint-Emilion

Saint-Émilion, a historic Bordeaux Right Bank appellation, is known for rich, robust red wines primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. These wines feature deep colour, lush texture, and complex flavours of ripe plum, black cherry, blackberry, with hints of chocolate, licorice, and earth. They have smooth tannins and balanced acidity, making them both approachable and age-worthy. Top producers include Château Cheval Blanc, Château Ausone, Château Angélus, and Château Pavie, all renowned for their exceptional quality and diverse expressions of Saint-Émilion's bold character.
