Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 Mar 20
The 2017 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant towers with its majestic beauty and total class. Somehow unctuous and yet also vibrant, the 2017 is simply magical. Orchard fruit, lemon confit, white flowers and mint are all deftly woven together. L'Extravagant is distinguished by its oily, viscous feel. It is in many ways an extreme wine, and yet it is so hauntingly beautiful.

The Doisy Daëne 2017 L'Extravagant bursts from the glass with a powerful nose of pineapple upside-down cake, apricot tart, allspice and lime blossoms plus an undercurrent of manuka honey and cinnamon toast. The palate is super rich, concentrated and unctuous with a wicked backbone of freshness to counter all that decadence, finishing with great length and depth.

Barsac. RS 204 g/l. They made just 1.5 barrels and Bordeaux Gold had one half-bottle sample. Intense, spiced pineapple aroma. So viscous it is physically hard to spit. Rich in botrytis flavours of orange and apricot with a bitter-orange flavour adding to the freshness on the finish. Voluptuous and a real achievement in this vintage. (JH)

Sauternes Fine Wine

Sauternes

Sauternes, a renowned Bordeaux appellation in the Graves region, is famous for its luxurious sweet white wines made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). This fungus concentrates sugars, creating wines with rich sweetness balanced by vibrant acidity. Sauternes wines feature complex aromas and flavours of apricot, honey, peach, citrus, and vanilla, with excellent ageing potential. Top producers include Château d'Yquem, Château Rieussec, Château Suduiraut, and Château Coutet.
