Fermented in 350-litre oak. In the middle of Lafon’s parcel, below Perrières. Quite high up. Was made by Lafon 20 years ago. Barrel sample.Intense citrus and a touch of clementine but lightly smoky reduction too. Power. So intense and streamlined, with just a light smokiness. The fruit is like a streak but goes on for ever, not to be tamed by the oak. Eye-watering freshness to balance that depth of fruit. (JH)

Meursault Fine Wine

Meursault

Meursault, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for its rich and complex Chardonnay wines. Known for opulent textures, vibrant acidity, and nutty, buttery flavours with notes of stone fruits, citrus, and hazelnuts, these wines also feature a subtle minerality and creamy mouthfeel from limestone-rich soils and oak ageing. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Perrières, Les Genevrières, and Les Charmes produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Domaine Roulot, and Domaine Coche-Dury, all celebrated for showcasing Meursault's unique terroir.
