The 2013 Volnay Clos de la Cave 1er Cru has a tart cherry bouquet whilst the palate is showing just a little stemminess, but there is plenty of straightforward brambly red fruit towards the finish that just feels a little clipped at the moment. I am looking for a bit more density here. Tasted at Goedhuis and Co.'s annual Burgundy tasting in London.

Volnay Fine Wine

Volnay

Volnay, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for elegant, refined Pinot Noir wines with silky texture, aromatic complexity, and graceful ageing potential. These wines feature delicate flavours of red berries, like cherry and raspberry, with floral notes and subtle earth and spice. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Crus like Les Caillerets and Clos des Chênes are highly esteemed for their finesse and depth. Top producers include Domaine Michel Lafarge, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, and Domaine Hubert de Montille, all dedicated to expressing Volnay's unique terroir.
