The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée 1859 has a well-defined bouquet: vivid dark berry fruit laced with orange pith and hints of blue fruit. It's vivacious. The palate is medium-bodied, with fleshy, ripe tannins counterbalanced by a keen line of acidity. A sweet core of fruit errs towards Fixin rather than Gevrey, with a rounded, sensual, spicy finish that lingers in the mouth. It's absolutely delicious and vindicating my score from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1859 derives from old vines in lieu-dit Champerrier that the Trapet family acquired in 1859. Offering up aromas of cherries, wild berries, orange rind and rose petals, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with a layered core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, sapid finish.

Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin, a prestigious Burgundy appellation in Côte de Nuits, is renowned for producing powerful Pinot Noir wines, often called the "King of Burgundy." These wines are known for bold flavours, complex aromas of dark cherries, blackcurrants, truffles, and spices, with robust structure and excellent ageing potential. The appellation includes nine Grand Cru vineyards, notably Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. Top producers like Domaine Armand Rousseau, Domaine Fourrier, and Domaine Denis Mortet craft wines that reflect the unique terroir and tradition of Gevrey-Chambertin.
