Medium garnet in color, the 2013 Mouton Rothschild gallops out with energetic notes of blackcurrant jelly, kirsch, and prunes, leading to suggestions of wild fungi, dusty soil, and charcuterie. The mediuml-bodied palate is packed with black fruit layers, framed by amazing tension and fine, ripe tannins, finishing long and earthy. This is very nicely done!

The 2013 Mouton-Rothschild has more lift and fruit than the Château Margaux tasted alongside. Fine delineation, briary and clove commingles with mint and loamy scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It's clean with an edgy and tensile finish. Given the growing season, this is a classy Mouton-Rothschild, satisfyingly harmonious and persistent. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Grilled oak on the nose, this has firm almost bulky Pauillac tannins, has definitely delivered appellation signature. Estate signature also, in that dash of glamour, gingerbread, cocoa bean and autumnal blackberruy fruits. Soft landing on the finish, on the edge of tertiary. Harvest September 30 to October 9.

The 2013 Mouton Rothschild is delicate, pretty and nicely lifted throughout, with a Pinot-like purity to its fruit. A distinctly lithe Mouton, the 2013 should offer fine drinking over the next two decades, or so although it is certainly not a blockbuster.
