Maison Boursot Père et Fils

Pinot Noir perfection from a cracking producer.

One of our rising stars; Domaine Boursot in Chambolle Musigny is a small family-run producer making brilliantly crafted red Burgundy. The history of the Boursot family dates back to at least 1550, with Guillaume Boursot who was a grape grower. He generated a lineage in Chambolle, all winegrowers from father to son.

After the very small 2016 harvest, Boursot had more wine in 2017, but this is still a small Domaine; 2-3 barrels of each wine, that’s it, for the whole world!

2017 here is a great success: bold wines with a pure Pinot Noir flavour and beautiful balance.

We highly recommend these fantastic village and Premier Cru wines, in both bottles and especially magnums!

Simply a really great set of wines – all dark coloured, all dark fruited, but all very different from one another. Highly recommended in their clean, no whole cluster, slightly dark oaked style – but not spicy or vanilla oak – and that oak won’t hang around for very long. Super!

Vosne Romanée

Vieilles Vignes

With Grands Crus such as “Richebourg”, “Romanée Saint-Vivant” or the very famous “Romanée Conti”, the vineyard of Vosne-Romanée produces wines whose quality and renown are no longer to prove. From vines over 75 years old, this wine is a tribute to its terroir. The ripe red fruits on a spicy background gives way to the aromas of candied fruits, leather and fur after years of aging. Aged 14 months in barrels with 50% new oak. Only 600 bottles produced.

Silky and fragrant. Attractive sweet fruit on the attack, vibrant raspberries and red cherries. Tangy. A real crowd-pleaser with a fleshy, textured finish.

In the corner of Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echézeaux.
A very fine and elegant fruit-flower nose here – no overt barrique. Supple, well-concentrated wine, a touch saline, wide and mobile. Cushioned, delicious wine.

Les Nazoires

Located in the bottom of the appellation, near Vougeot. The most feminine of the Bourgogne wines covers the mouth with velvet. Its aromas of red fruits express themselves with a great finesse and a superb complexity.

Plenty of colour – as all the wines here. A dark nose but with a good and interesting high-toned complexity. Ooh, that’s good – supple, great texture, a little floral complexity too. Bravo – simply a beauty.

Les Chatelots

This plot has less sunlight because located in a hollow. However, it benefits from the heat and humidity that stagnates at the bottom of this depression during the summer, making it a more robust vine. The resulting wine is powerful and structured and combines the aromas of candied black fruits, leather and spices.

A big nose, deep, slightly fumé from the oak. Ooh – this winds around the palate with supple, fine textured concentration – yes there’s some oak here but a very fine sucrosity from the fruit too. Contemplative, concentrated and importantly, like all, completely delicious.

Les Lavrottes 2017.jpgChambolle Musigny 1er Cru

Les Lavrottes

Two barrels. This is the only wine that is showing its new oak today. Similar to the redcurrant notes found in the Lavrottes but more lithe and with a tension and precision that is textbook Pinot Noir.

Located below the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, “Les Lavrottes” is among the smallest premier cru of Chambolle-Musigny but also among the finest and most delicate. The pink fruits and red fruits are expressed with great elegance and a touch of minerality. The production amounts to only 450 bottles.
