Cotes de Beaune
The town of Beaune lent its name to the wider region that surrounds it – the Cotes de Beaune. Chardonnay is king here, with Montrachet sitting atop the tree, but red wines are of course also made in the region and with great distinction too. Wonderful Pinot Noir. The areas of Beaune, Volnay and Pommard lead the way. The three main white villages are Puligny Montrachet (famed for their structure and raciness), Chassagne-Montrachet (where the wines are a little richer in style) and Meursault makes the biggest, richest style of the three and has fantastic colour.
