Margaux
Margaux, often regarded as making some of the most elegant wines of the Medoc. The soils are different to the more northerly Medoc communes with more sand and less clay in the soil - the microclimate that surrounds Margaux allows the fruit to ripen sometimes 5-6 days earlier than Pauillac, making it perfect for the late ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. The Chateaux of Margaux and Palmer (see photo) are the leading lights here, but properties like the Chanel owned Rauzan Segla and Ch. Brane-Cantenac have vastly improved in recent years. The Chateaux of du Tertre and Angludet make fantastic value for money offerings.
