St Julien
This Bordeaux left bank appellation takes its name from the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle and is home to some of the great Second Growths such as Ducru Beaucaillou, Leoville Las Cases, and Gruaud Larose. Other stars include the likes of Beychevelle and Branaire Ducru which rank lower in the 1855 classification but these days punch with the same weight of any Second Growth. Located between the mighty Pauillac and Margaux appellations, St Julian at its best offers the finesse and perfume of Margaux spliced together with the concentration and focus of Pauillac.
