The 2014 Côte Rôtie Domaine Gerard is sappy and lean, with medium-bodied depth and richness in its strawberry, green herb and underbrush-slanted bouquet. There’s an appealing tension and vibrancy here, but more fruit would definitely be welcome. Coming from the Mollard, La Brosse, La Viallere and La Landonne lieux-dits, the blend is 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier; it’s mostly destemmed, and is aged in 20% new French oak demi-muids and foudres.
