Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château, the 1999 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. It has a cautious nose at first, eventually opening with scents of ripe red berry fruit, such as cranberry and wild strawberry, sage and autumn leaves following closely behind. The palate is medium-bodied with pointed tannin, perhaps missing a little depth on the mid-palate, tapering towards that linear finish. It has lost a little substance since I tasted it in 2010, and so I would broach bottles sooner rather than later. Tasted March 2016.
