Another of the fine single-vineyard estates from Jonathan Malthus, this property at the entrance to the medieval village of St.-Emilion produces a wine that is dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. An absolutely magnificent wine from Malthus, the 2005 Le Carré has sensational concentration, high extract, sweet but abundant tannin, full body, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel with loads of plum, black cherry, and cassis fruit, that underlying stony minerality and a huge finish. Just approaching drinkability, it should evolve for another 20-25 years.
