Bright lemon-yellow. Pure, brisk aromas of lemon and white truffle. Dense, concentrated and sweet but with terrific framing energy and strong underlying spine. Finishes sappy and tactile, with a lightly tannic impression. A knockout wine from a vineyard that can quickly get overripe if the fruit is harvested even a day or two too late. In fact, this wine's structure reminded me of a Perrières, which is a remarkable accomplishment for Bouchères.

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Roulot's 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Clos de Bouchères was startling when I tasted it from barrel with Jean-Marc. Here it was showing quite a bit of new oak on the nose that erased some of the terroir, at least at the moment. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, notes of lime and fresh pear, perhaps a little obvious compared to some of its peers but with an appealing salinité on the finish. It has just lost a bit of the sparkle, that chiseled mineralité that is exuded in its nascent stage. I will keep my fingers crossed.

60% hailed. Sweet and less tense than his Porusot. Sweet and round. Lots of fun but the tension is all buried. Some richness. (JR)

Meursault Fine Wine

Meursault

Meursault, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for its rich and complex Chardonnay wines. Known for opulent textures, vibrant acidity, and nutty, buttery flavours with notes of stone fruits, citrus, and hazelnuts, these wines also feature a subtle minerality and creamy mouthfeel from limestone-rich soils and oak ageing. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Perrières, Les Genevrières, and Les Charmes produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Domaine Roulot, and Domaine Coche-Dury, all celebrated for showcasing Meursault's unique terroir.
