The 1999 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a concentrated bouquet that reflects the vintage: black plum, pressed violets and a touch of sea spray. Leathery notes surface with time. The palate is medium-bodied, the concentration offset by the bead of acidity. It is smooth in texture with a vibrant, quite sorbet-fresh finish. I love the flesh on this Chambolle—excellent. Tasted at David Pope's 1999 Burgundy horizontal at Lorne.

Chambolle-Musigny

Chambolle-Musigny, a prestigious appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is renowned for its elegant, aromatic Pinot Noir wines. Known for their finesse and complex aromas of red berries, violets, and earth, these wines are often described as the most "feminine" of Burgundy. The appellation's two Grand Cru vineyards, Bonnes Mares and Musigny, produce highly sought-after wines with depth and ageing potential. Notable producers include Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Domaine Georges Roumier, and Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, all celebrated for their refined winemaking.
