The 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, dusky and loamy, with a hint of bay leaf. It unfolds nicely in the glass. This is medium-bodied on the palate, light and suave, maybe missing a bit of backbone for a 2005, but reassuringly persistent. It doesn't quite move me as others, but that is a trope of this vintage. Tasted at Stannery Wines' producer tasting in London.

Chambolle-Musigny

Chambolle-Musigny, a prestigious appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is renowned for its elegant, aromatic Pinot Noir wines. Known for their finesse and complex aromas of red berries, violets, and earth, these wines are often described as the most "feminine" of Burgundy. The appellation's two Grand Cru vineyards, Bonnes Mares and Musigny, produce highly sought-after wines with depth and ageing potential. Notable producers include Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Domaine Georges Roumier, and Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, all celebrated for their refined winemaking.
