Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Jul 14
Pale yellow-green. Enticing high-pitched aromas of lime blossom, powdered stone and lavender. Sweet, supple, ripe and rich but with good acid lift and inner-mouth aromatic character to the fresh citrus and mineral flavors. An elegant, rather lush grand cru with lovely balance and persistence.

The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir comes from 1.4-hectares: two parcels divided by a small track that includes the oldest vines of the estate that are vinified apart. It is more expressive on the nose compared to the Bougros as expected: citrus lemon, yellow flowers and here, a touch of orange rind. The palate is well balanced, again quite rounded in texture with flecks of orange rind and ginger. There is a little more weight and concentration on the finish compared to the Bougros, ergo it is a little prettier at this early stage.

Chablis

Chablis, the northernmost Burgundy region, is famed for its crisp, mineral-driven Chardonnay wines. Unlike rich, oaky Chardonnays, Chablis wines, influenced by the cool climate and limestone-rich soils, feature vibrant acidity and flavours of green apple, citrus, and flint. Ideal with seafood, especially oysters, Chablis wines come in four appellations: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis Grand Cru. Esteemed producers like Domaine William Fèvre, François Raveneau, and Vincent Dauvissat are known for their classic, terroir-expressive wines.
