The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussière, from an early ripening site, has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, dark berries and plums mingled with warm spices and orange zest. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's deep and impressively concentrated, with powdery structuring tannins and a long, perfumed finish.

The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussière 1er Cru does not really respond on the nose; it is a bit flat compared to its peers with the whole bunch singing from a different hymn sheet to the fruit. The palate seems quite dull and lacks some vigour. Again, I think there is some whole bunch that dictates the overall wine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

On the Chambolle–Morey border; first vineyard in Morey. Cask sample. Medium ruby, bright and clear. The nose is richer with more pronounced cherries, strawberry and darker raspberry for depth. Fine, elegant tannins maintain a light imprint and the wine shows great clarity and zest. (MH)
