Vinous Neal Martin - 12 Dec 23
The 2019 Meursault Goutte d'Or 1er Cru has a rather obdurate bouquet that demands rigorous glass swirling. You have to eke out scents of citrus peel, crushed pebbles and hints of dandelion. It's attractive, though you yearn for more presence. The palate is well-balanced with a slightly viscous opening and quince and stem ginger touches. Cohesive toward the finish with well-integrated oak, this has a pleasing crescendo. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or is lovely, bursting with aromas of pear, grapefruit and white flowers mingled with hints of nutmeg and struck match. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with lively acids and a ripe core of fruit despite a youthfully tight-knit structure, it shows plenty of promise.

Meursault Fine Wine

Meursault

Meursault, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for its rich and complex Chardonnay wines. Known for opulent textures, vibrant acidity, and nutty, buttery flavours with notes of stone fruits, citrus, and hazelnuts, these wines also feature a subtle minerality and creamy mouthfeel from limestone-rich soils and oak ageing. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Perrières, Les Genevrières, and Les Charmes produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Domaine Roulot, and Domaine Coche-Dury, all celebrated for showcasing Meursault's unique terroir.
