Tasting Notes

Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 Oct 16
The 2013 Montevertine is a firm, classically built wine that is likely to require quite a few years to unwind. Bright acidity and beams of tannin provide the structural backbone. Still very primary and unevolved, the 2013 has closed down considerably since I tasted it from cask last year. The searing, mid-weight style will appeal most to readers who enjoy classically austere wines, but bottles opened before the age of ten are likely to not be particularly enjoyable. This is a wine for the long haul.

Tuscany

Tuscany, a renowned wine region in central Italy, is famous for its high-quality Sangiovese-based wines. Key styles include Chianti, with vibrant acidity and red fruit flavours; Chianti Classico, known for greater depth; and Brunello di Montalcino, prized for its rich, full-bodied character and ageing potential. Tuscany also produces prestigious Super Tuscan wines that blend Sangiovese with international varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon. Top producers are Antinori, for Tignanello; Castello di Ama, for Chianti Classico; and Biondi-Santi, for Brunello.
