This 2012 Gianni Brunelli Brunello di Montalcino Riserva has a surprisingly youthful dark ruby color. On the nose it is mature with a little of that Bloody Mary, sun-dried tomato note, but it is still very clean and tight with a slight lifted floral, violet note too. On the palate there is a lovely, vibrant freshness and fine sandy-textured tannins. This is another wine with a wonderful texture and weight and a melting silkiness to the texture. A wine with beautiful poise and balance on the palate

The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a balanced wine that ultimately has succeeded in absorbing the excessive heat of the vintage with expert precision. The bouquet shows dark fruit aromas with candied cherry and syrupy crème de cassis. Those ripe aromas never get too heavy because the wine also exhibits polished mineral definition that adds sharpness and focus. Only 3,000 bottles were produced.

Lustrous ruby. Concentrated yet poised on the nose. Restrained palate but with a clear, powerful core of fruit and wonderful chewy tannins. Just a tiny bit of dried fruit beginning to manifest itself. Still very closed and monolithic. (WS)
