Tasting Notes

Robert Parker Wine Advocate Joe Czerwinski - 19 Dec 19
A blend of Moutonnes and Chavaroche, the 2017 Cote Rotie L'Angeline is a silky, medium to full-bodied wine that ticks all the right boxes. It offers concentrated purple raspberry fruit and complex notes of peppery spice and licorice and shows excellent ripeness and length. Like all of the Côte Rôties from Chambeyron, it favors elegance over extraction and power.

100% Syrah. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Ripe red fruit, a touch of fresh herbal scent and sweet oak notes too. Very open and user-friendly, although its lightness and short length makes this pretty simple for Côte Rôtie. (RH)

Cote Rotie

Côte-Rôtie, a distinguished Northern Rhône appellation, is famed for its elegant, complex Syrah-based red wines. The name means "Roasted Slope," reflecting its sun-drenched, steep hillsides. These wines often blend Syrah with a small amount of Viognier, adding floral notes to rich dark fruit flavours like blackberries and plums, with peppery, smoky undertones. Top producers include E. Guigal, Domaine Jamet, and Domaine Côte-Rôtie, all celebrated for crafting some of the region's most revered wines.
